Youth Camps:
Each year the Foundation takes 60-70 youth from the impoverished areas with which we work on a camp. The camp is aimed at empowering the youth with knowledge and insight into their everyday affairs. These youth are faced with gangsterism, domestic violence, drugs and sexual abuse and are often the ones who cannot enjoy life outside the realm of crime.
The camps are facilitated by Mustadafin madrassah teachers and other professionals whom we hire. The camps are meant to be fun, stimulating and rejuvenating. It usually takes place during the school mid-year holidays.
SPONSOR A CAMPER:
As is always the case, raising funds for these educational initiatives are not always easy. Last year (2007) the camp costs for 75 youth totaled to a whopping R82 000. This included transport to and from the camp site, daily meals, accommodation and paying for facilitators who address the youth about pertinent matters, e.g. HIV/Aids workers as well as a ‘goodie bag’.
Supporting these youths and teaching them the necessary skills to uplift themselves, while in line with Mustadafin’s vision, has taken its toll on the Foundation’s funds. As a result we appeal to the public to help us inspire a youth by sponsoring a camper.
